About Us

Before working with glass Alcy was busy raising two children and running a sheep ranch

Working Glass Art is Albert Frank and Alcyon Lord.  We are borosilicate lamp workers living in Corvallis Oregon. Alcy is a native Oregonian having moved to Ashland at the age of three; Al was transplanted here from Pennsylvania in 1972.

and Al was teaching college courses on meteorology and astronomy.

The usual concatenation of circumstances pulled each of us from our old lives and brought us into doing production glass blowing, where we learned the fundamentals of our craft.  In 2008 we left our production jobs so that we could follow our own visions.  Alcy focused on making beads and marbles and Al pursued learning to sculpt in glass.  Today we make a wide variety of items ranging from the purely decorative to art that is both beautiful and functional.

Borosilicate glass colors

Borosilicate glass colors have an organic quality that lends them well to evoking the vibrancy and color palette of the natural world.  Working these colors successfully in the flame requires knowledge of the physics and chemistry involved as well as being open to accepting serendipity.

The childhood love of small treasures, of collecting natural and found materials and observing nature provides continuous inspiration to our work. We use the heat of the flame and the abilities in our hands to make visions become real.
